What are the Clairs?
Have you ever woken up with a song playing in the back of your head? Or visualized a conversation you were having with a friend? Then you’ve used your clairs!
The clairs are our psychic senses - senses able to perceive without physical stimuli.
Imagine how a rose smells, or the smell of fresh cut grass. No scent particles are hitting your nose physically, yet you can experience the smell nonetheless. Sensory experiences without physical stimuli are psychic in nature. And everyone has the ability to cultivate these psychic senses!
In the chakra energy system, the psychic senses are centered in our third eye chakra, linked to the pituitary gland of the brain. You can imagine it as a portal through which psychic information is received from the Universe around you. Through stimulation and exercise, this gland & chakra can be strengthened, sharpening your clairs and intuition.

Why Strengthen Your Psychic Senses?
Strengthening the third eye supports more parts of life than one might expect. On a practical level, the clairs can be used to precisely imagine and design your ideas. The ability to clearly envision the mosaic you want to create, the machine you are repairing, or the painting you are planning in your mind’s eye is a powerful skill that can elevate your craft. The same is true for all of the senses. If you are already pursuing a passion, its corresponding clairs may be among your strongest.
In addition to designing and projecting one’s own ideas, the third eye can be used to receive ideas and information from the Universe. Our Universe is brimming with information in a myriad of forms - from packets of light that hit the cones and rods in our eyes - to pheromones that stimulate nerve cells in our noses. Now consider that those particles of light and chemical signatures we register with our eyes and nose are macroscopic relative to the full range of information available to us. Non-physical, energetic information is much more subtle and requires a certain level of sensitivity. By exercising the psychic senses, they become more sensitive and precise, allowing greater access to intuitive information.

How to Strengthen Your Clairs
It is natural for some clairs to be more developed than others. Maybe you find it easy to feel energy, but difficult to recreate your favorite song. For me, this tends to correlate with the physical senses I enjoy the most in my daily life. If you’re not taking the time to notice a physical sense in detail, then it’s unlikely you’re tuning in to its subtler counterpart.
In my experience, there are three main components to mastering anything: education, exercise, and application. With access to the internet, education is widely available - from books to blog posts, YouTube videos, and podcasts - many resources exist to learn more about the psychic arts. The next step is to strengthen your clairs with exercise and practice applying them. Practice is key because it allows you to test your progress and learn through experience. Oftentimes, practice will show you that you have made more progress than you thought!
🌱 Tune In to Your Physical Senses 🌿
A great way to begin is to place more focus on your physical senses in daily life - especially the senses you often overlook. If you tend to ignore your sense of smell, taking the time to smell the air on a walk, the perfumes in a crowded room, or your favorite food in the kitchen can kickstart that sense again and make it more prevalent in your lived experience. As you work on them, they will become more detailed and discerning.

Listed below are exercises to strengthen five of the psychic senses. If a selection of your clairs are already quite strong, you may want to forgo their exercises and spend extra time on your weaker clairs instead, then apply all of your clairs together in practice. Experiment and find the pace and structure that works best for you!

🔮 Clairvoyance - Clear Seeing 🔮
The Visualization Exercise
This exercise hails from many psychics before me who have used it to hone their inner vision. A traditional subject is a vase of flowers, but you can use anything around you.
1.) Set a timer for the exercise. Try starting with a shorter time, like 2 to 5 minutes.
2.) Look at something near you. Study its appearance in detail. Try taking a mental snapshot.
3.) Close your eyes, holding the mental snapshot in your inner vision as best you can. Keep it there with as much detail as possible.
4.) When the image has faded, open your eyes and try again. You could use the same object/scene, or something different.
5.) Practice until the timer stops you.
6.) Without judgement, notice how long, and in how much detail, you could hold your visualizations. You can note this down in a journal to keep track of your progress.
You may only have a blurry or vague visual at first. Don’t let this deter you! Starting is the hardest part and improvement will just take practice. Tracking your growth in a journal can be a helpful tool to notice and celebrate your progress! With practice, you may notice that you start visualizing more naturally.

🔮 Clairaudience - Clear Hearing 🔮
The Bell Exercise
This is an age-old mindfulness exercise using a bell or sound bowl. It can make both your hearing and clairaudience more sensitive.
1.) Find a bell or sound bowl to work with.
2.) Set a timer for the exercise. Try starting with a shorter time, like 2 to 5 minutes.
3.) Ring the bell or sound bowl and listen closely. Try to continue hearing it for as long as possible. How does the sound warp and change over time?
4.) When you can no longer hear the sound at all, recreate it from start to finish in your mind.
5.) Repeat the exercise until the timer stops you.
6.) Without judgement, notice how long, and in how much detail, you could hear the bell and recreate it. You can note this down in a journal to keep track of your progress.

The Music Exercise
Me and my sister often experience songs with our clairaudience. We’ll hear music crystal-clear in our heads, like an internal radio. With clairaudience, spirit guides and loved ones in Spirit can put songs in your head as a way of sending messages. It’s also a powerful skill for music composition and performance.
1.) Choose a song to work with and set up your way of listening to it.
2.) Set a timer for the exercise. Try starting with a shorter time, like 2 to 5 minutes.
3.) Play a bit of the song and try to notice as much detail as you can.
4.) Pause the music and recreate in your head what you just heard, to the best of your ability.
5.) Play the same part of the song again to test how well you recreated its details, or try the exercise with a new piece of music.
6.) Practice until the timer stops you.
7.) Without judgement, notice how long, and in how much detail, you could recreate the music for. You can note this down in a journal to keep track of your progress.

🔮 Clairalience - Clear Smelling 🔮
The Scent Exercise
This exercise uses the same principles as the previous clair exercises to enhance clairalience. With clairalience, you may notice more details in scent (like the complex notes in food and perfumes) and scent can become another channel of intuitive information.
1.) Find a perfume, scented oil, candle, herb, or whatever speaks to you to work with.
2.) Set a timer for the exercise. Try starting with a shorter time, like 2 to 5 minutes.
3.) Smell your item closely, noticing as much detail as possible.
4.) Move the object far enough away from you that you can no longer smell it physically.
5.) Recreate the smell with your clairalience in as much detail as possible. Hold it for as long as you can.
6.) When you can no longer recreate the smell, notice how long you held it for on your timer and start the exercise again from Step 3.
7.) End the exercise when the timer runs out.
8.) Without judgement, observe how long and in how much detail you recreated the scent. You can note this down in a journal to keep track of your progress.

🔮 Clairsentience - Clear Feeling 🔮
The Inner Aura Exercise
Auras have many layers, but the innermost energy field traces around your body, typically extending a few inches from the skin, but capable of expanding much further. Feeling this energy field is a great way to practice feeling energy and to become aware of your own energetic field.
1.) Find a comfortable seated position where you won’t be disturbed.
3.) Place your palms against one another, then spread your hands ever so slightly apart so that they are no longer touching.
4.) For me, it helps to move my palms around (maybe leaving one stationary and turning the other) or to bounce them very slightly (towards & away from one another.)
5.) Observe the feeling between them. By holding your palms together, you are creating a fold in your inner energy field. You will begin to notice a feeling like magnetism pushing your palms apart when you try to bring them together.
6.) Once you can feel the energy, move your palms a little farther from each other and continue feeling into it.
7.) Experiment with how intensely you can feel the energy (it can feel almost as strong as a physical force) or play around with how far apart you can spread your palms and still feel it.
8.) You can also try hovering your hands around your body, legs, or arms, and noticing the same reaction between the hand’s energy field with the body’s.
9.) Continue for as long as you wish to.

The Object Exercise
This is something I have been experimenting with to feel energy more clearly. I haven’t settled on a precise variation, as I tend to change it up throughout the exercise. I’ll include the variants I’ve come up with and you can see what works for you.
It can be helpful to warm-up for this exercise with The Inner Aura Exercise.
1.) Select an object or two to work with.
❥ It is easier if they are high vibrational or charged - like selenite, a charged crystal, or a high frequency crystal - I use crystals a lot in my practice! But you will know what is right for you!
❥ As you become more sensitive, you can move to more energetically subtle objects.
3.) Find a place to sit where you won’t be disturbed. Make sure there is a surface accessible to you to place your objects on. (I tend to sit on the floor and place everything in front of me.)
4.) Set a timer for the exercise.
Variation #1 - Compare and Contrast
5.) Place your object(s) on a surface in front of you. If you have multiple, spread them out.
6.) Hover your hands over the different objects and the surface with nothing on it. How does their energy differ? What do they each feel like? Do both of your hands feel in the same way?
7.) Observe the sensations of the different energies.
8.) Continue until the timer runs out.
Variation #2 - Blind
5.) Try to place your items in an arbitrary arrangement.
❥ You could also close your eyes and have someone place them for you.
❥ It’s okay to know approximately where they are.
6.) Close your eyes.
7.) Keeping your eyes closed, hover your hands over the surface and the objects, trying not to touch them.
8.) Observe the sensations of the different energies.
9.) Try to center your hand over one of the objects by feeling the energy. If this is too easy, then try instead to pinpoint the exact edge of an object.
10.) Open your eyes and observe your results.

🔮 Clairtangency - Clear Touching 🔮
The Mystery Bag Exercise
This exercise strengthens clairtangency - also known as psychometry - the ability to receive psychic information through touch.
The exercise requires the help of a friend.
1.) Find a vessel to hide something in such that you can touch what is inside without seeing it. An opaque fabric bag, a t-shirt wrapped around, or a blanket could all work.
2.) Have a friend hide something in your bag/blanket/etc. without you seeing.
3.) Clear your mind.
4.) Without looking at the mystery object, reach inside the bag and touch it.
5.) Notice what impressions come forward. Take as much time as you wish.
6.) Remove the item from the bag and see if you can confirm any of your impressions.
❥ Impressions about the object’s history or creation may be harder to validate if they predate you or your friend’s ownership of it. But you can always ask around or do some research.

☕️ Casual Exercises for Your Day ☕️
The clair exercises can be a fun way to make use of in-between and relaxed time, such as: on a walk, during advertisements, or waiting in a line. The more you look for opportunities, the more you will notice! I love using the visualization exercise during ad breaks when I watch TV. I’ll take a visual snapshot of the screen and hold it. Get creative and find what works for you!

My Experiences
As an aspiring medium, I noticed that my perception of Spirit was relatively limited. I could feel Spirit and occasionally see or hear something, but very little would come through. As I sat down to write my 2025 goals and intentions, it occurred to me that perhaps my psychic senses weren’t sensitive enough to receive all that Spirit could be sending my way. As I entered 2025, I replaced my sitting in the power meditation with a series of psychic training exercises focusing on my weaker clairs. After a month, I tried sitting in the power again and was surprised to see visions of my ancestors! I have a newfound sense of clarity & motivation with my psychic goals. I hope these exercises help you on your journey, too!
